Buy Ammunition Online

Nowadays, it is quite easy to buy ammunition online. Still, you have to follow certain procedures and adhere to the regulations related to the purchase of handguns and ammunitions. These regulations had been set under the Gun Control Act of 1968 in the United States. According to this Federal law,

* A person should be 18 years old or above to purchase ammunition for shotgun and that person should be 21 years old or more for purchasing rifle and handgun ammunition.
* Federal Firearms License or FFL is not needed to buy ammunition online.
* Ammunition could be shipped only through road transport and could not be air freighted.

Apart from the above Federal regulations, ammunition once sold would not be bought again by firearms dealers. You should also ensure that the correct type of ammunition that suits your firearm is purchased. You should also check the state laws on firearms and ammunition. In states like New York City, Massachusetts, Washington D.C., Alaska, Hawaii, Illinois, and Cook County, sale and purchase of ammunition is prohibited. Hence, you should clearly mention the state in which you live when you buy ammunition online.

There are risks also when you buy ammunition online. All ammunition is not equal. A wrong selection could easily cost you an arm or a leg. To cite an example, a .22 bullet could be fired from a .22 pistol or rifle. However, there would be additional letters in the description of the ammunition. Again, .22L is for a long barrel, while .22 LR is for a long rifle. A .22S denotes a short barrel. You should know what type of gun you are having before ordering the ammunition. This would help prevent the bullet getting jammed, leading to accidents.

Go through the online descriptions and evaluations of ammunition before you buy ammunition online. You should understand the results of the tests for cartridge velocity and accuracy of each brand. Your selection of the ammunition should be based on the type of gun that you have and the purpose for which you wish to use the ammunition.
